76 Falls on Lake Cumberland will be a main place to be during the Spirit of 76 Celebration July 3-4, 2026

You may never have heard of Seventy Six, Kentucky, though it is the only place in America with that name. You more likely have heard of 76 Falls on Lake Cumberland. The falls on Indian Creek got its name from the community, which is a Clinton County voting precinct and had a post office from 1834 to 1952, when the lake was fully impounded and the height of the falls at normal pool became 38 feet instead of the original 84 feet. When the lake reached its highest level a few years ago, it was just a rapid, and boaters were able to ride through it. In the summer the cove attracts many houseboats, pontoons and pleasure craft. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers maintains a park and overlook, accessible from KY 3062, off KY 90 north of Albany. That will be the site for the start of a 7.6-mile run as part of the Spirit of 76 Celebration on July 4, 2026. In this photo the Appalachian foothills are in the background. (Photo by Ryan C.
